Diastasis Recti Rehab

Diastasis Recti Rehab is for any woman who has had a baby.

You may be aware of a gap in the midline of your abdominal muscles, and/or you may feel like your tummy

doesn't look, feel or work in the same way it did before you were pregnant.

You may also be experiencing back pain and/or continence issues.

If this is you, read on to find out how Diastasis Recti Rehab can help you.

What is Diastasis Recti?

How can I tell if I have Diastasis Recti?

Diastasis Recti refers to the widening and softening of the linea-alba which is a band of connective tissue running down the midline of the tummy separating the two rectus abdominis muscles. By the third trimester most women develop a diastasis, and it is one of the many amazing ways our body changes to accommodate our growing baby.

Once baby has arrived you may find that you are still experiencing a gap and lack of core tension. This is perfectly normal as it can take up to 2-6 months for this to heal.

For some women however, they are left with a gap and lack of tension in their core muscles.

  • Doming of your abdominal muscles when you exert pressure on the core such as exercise, sneezing or coughing.

  • Lower back pain

  • Weak core or lack of connection with the core muscles.

  • Urinary Incontinence

  • Gap down the midline of abdomen (although some women can have a functional Diastasis with a gap - so don't get too hung up on this!)

  • A tummy that continues to look pregnant.

What is Diastasis Rehab?

In order to fully heal Diastasis Recti it is important to consider the 'Whole Woman, the Whole Body and the Whole Life,' because we cannot properly HEAL without using a fully HOLISTIC APPROACH!

A thorough consultation and assessment is required to begin, combined with a programme which focuses on nutritional guidance for post birth healing, breathing strategies, postural alignment,  emotional/psychological factors as well as soft tissue hands on work, working both locally and globally to the diastasis. These factors all need to be considered before we even start to integrate exercise, movement and load.

As we know from other therapies, touch is a VITAL part of the healing process therefore, before we begin to think about movement, its essential we use hands on techniques first for longer lasting effects.

Who Is This Programme For?

  • Do you have a Rectus Abdominis (gap down the midline of your tummy)?

  • Do you feel like your core is weak?

  • Are you experience leaking when you exercise, cough or sneeze?

  • Do you feel disconnected from your core?

  • Are you experiencing doming/coning when you apply load to your abdomen?

  • Do you want to improve the look of your tummy?

  • Are you experiencing lower back issues which you think is due to having a weak core?
